2004 - A letter from our Governor, Liz Texeira:
Dear Donna,
The memories that come back still make me smile. The debates and discussion, the characters and campaigns, the chants, cheers, and customs, but most of all the experience. Girls State was an amazing experience for me and I honestly don't remember the last time that I've had more fun. I was able to debate with my peers on contemporary issues, meet future leaders from across the state, listen to fascinating speakers, prove myself in front of my peers, and not least of all, ogle the military recruiters with the rest of my testosterone-starved town. (LOYALTY!) No matter what your forte, Girls State had something for you. The "talkers" such as myself, chose to run for elected office, the "thinkers" created legislation that was voted on in true parliamentary procedure, all while the "creative souls" in my town choreographed a rousing rendition and dance to "Stacy's Mom" with altered lyrics. The location at Bay Path College was absolutely beautiful and the staff surpassed their basic responsibilities going above and beyond the call of duty. My experience at Girls State was revealing; not just for myself, but for my generation as well, one cannot help but have hope for the future. My most sincere thanks to everyone who helped make MA Girls State 2004 such a tremendous sucess. Thank you for this remarkable opportunity.
Liz Texeira
