SUBJECT: Samsung American Legion Scholarship
The Samsung American Legion Scholarship is awarded at the 2012 Girls State session for the 2013 College Year. You must be a direct descendant, (i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc.) of a US wartime veteran, and participate in the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program for the 2012 year. You are then eligible to apply for the Samsung American Legion Scholarship.
This scholarship is awarded to 7 students nationwide, who have participated in the American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State programs for the current year. The award is $20,000 for the national winners. Each program chooses 1 student from the applications received and forwards that application onto the National Americanism Committee who oversees all the awards. If the student is not a National Award winner, he/she will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

If you do not have access to a computer you can call me and request a hard copy, but be sure to gather the other information needed, and as soon as you receive the application you can fill it out and bring it with you to Girls State .
If eligible, complete the application, attach the required veteran's Certificate of Release or Discharge From Active Duty (Form DD-214) or other government document showing time served on active military duty and submit your application to your Girls State Counselor when you arrive at Girls State. Applications MUST be turned in by Sunday, June 17, 2012 . Applications will not be accepted after that date.
